What our science tutoring covers at every academic level

Whether your child is just beginning their science journey at Key Stage 1 or preparing for university-level courses, we offer guidance every step of the way. Our online tutors use a friendly approach to explain complex concepts, helping students become confident, independent learners.

Science at Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2
At these foundational levels, our tutors focus on building curiosity and understanding basic scientific ideas through interactive and practical examples. Our goal is to spark your child’s love of learning and set strong roots for future scientific disciplines.

Key Stage 3 Science
Students at this stage explore the early elements of Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Tutors support them in developing analytical skills, learning how to apply their knowledge and ask scientific questions. We also ensure they’re fully prepared for the step up to GCSE science.

GCSE Science – Combined or Triple
Whether your child is studying Combined Science or the three separate GCSE sciences, we offer targeted science classes for all major exam boards. We help students understand key concepts, master mark schemes and build effective exam technique.

A-level Science
A-levels demand deep subject knowledge and critical thinking. Our experienced tutors, including some with PhDs in Physics and Medical Sciences, help students break down advanced material and link theory with real-life examples.

Why science tutoring is more important than ever

Science subjects not only help students achieve academic success—they also prepare them for a broad range of careers and nurture practical life skills. From improving memory and logic to building resilience and problem-solving ability, science skills go beyond textbooks.

Core skills learned through science tuition

Even if your child goes on to further or higher education that doesn’t involve a science subject, or a career that isn’t science-based, helping them to develop science skills early can equip them with skills and traits that will be useful in every aspect of their day to day lives.

  • Developing as a critical thinker
  • Enhancing analytical and reasoning skills
  • Practising evidence-based problem-solving
  • Strengthening memory and organisation
  • Understanding the scientific method and its real-world impact

  • Medicine and healthcare
  • Environmental Sciences and policy
  • Forensic science

What our science tutors are like

Every tutor at Tutoring Heroes is chosen based on more than just qualifications. We look for patient people with previous private tutor experience, classroom experience, and a passion for inspiring students. Many have taught in UK schools, and all bring extensive experience working with ages ranging from primary school to college level.

Our approach to tutoring
Our science tutors use personalised lessons to adapt to your child’s needs. We consider their learning goal, preferred learning style, exam board, and subject strengths and weaknesses. From screen sharing interactive diagrams to using practical, creative experiences to explain theories, our tutors make science come alive.

What makes a great science tutor?

  • A qualified science teacher with deep subject knowledge
  • Someone who brings lessons to life using creative experiences
  • An empathetic person who understands each learner’s pace
  • An individual with experience in online tutoring platforms
  • A patient person who helps students feel safe to ask questions

Our online learning format

All our science tuition is delivered through a secure, user-friendly online platform called Whiteboard. Our story: From Guernsey to online excellence

Tutoring Heroes started in the Channel Islands, where we ran our first maths tutoring sessions in a small community centre in Guernsey. When the pandemic changed everything, we moved our lessons online—and discovered the incredible benefits of remote learning. Online tutoring has allowed us to reach more families, match students with tutors who truly suit them, and create flexible, fun science lessons that work for everyone.

We’ve grown from teaching just three students at a time to delivering personalised learning experiences to hundreds of students across the UK.

What parents say about us

Parents often tell us how their child’s confidence has improved, how grades have risen, and how much more motivated their child is to study science. One parent recently described us as a team of “fabulous people who care deeply about their students’ success.” That’s the heart of what we do—empowering every student to thrive.

Making science fun and engaging

We believe science should never feel dull or intimidating. From gravity to genetics, our tutors bring energy and humour into each session. We use real-life examples to explain difficult ideas, and we encourage curiosity by welcoming all questions—no matter how big or small.

Exercises and tools we use

  • Screen sharing for dynamic note-taking
  • Quizzes and memory games for revision
  • Past paper exam practice tailored to exam specification
  • Whiteboard drawing tools for illustrating concepts
  • Fun analogies and storytelling to simplify abstract ideas
  • Encouraging questions to boost engagement

Meet some of our tutors

Picture of Ann

Ann

Ann is a friendly and supportive tutor who specialises in science, particularly physics and chemistry, while also offering English tuition. Having excelled in her GCSEs and A-levels, she is now studying Mechanical Engineering at university, where she loves bringing theory to life through practical projects, like building a remote-controlled vehicle.
Ann’s tutoring style is interactive and student-focused, helping learners build confidence and a deeper understanding at their own pace. She loves how science and maths explain the world around us, from everyday problems to the mysteries of the universe, and is passionate about sharing this sense of wonder with her students.
Beyond tutoring, Ann enjoys arts and crafts, often sketching or crocheting, and has recently developed a keen interest in chess.
An interesting fact about Ann: she has a famously terrible sense of direction — once looping around the Eiffel Tower three times because she kept getting lost!
Ann’s creativity, patience, and enthusiasm make her a valued member of the Tutoring Heroes team, inspiring students to enjoy their learning journey.

Picture of Devon

Devon

Devon is one of our most passionate science and maths tutors, whose friendly approach helps students build confidence and independence. Currently studying Electronic Engineering at university, Devon achieved strong academic results at GCSE and A-level, particularly excelling in maths topics like graphing and mechanics. His tutoring style focuses on clear explanations, guided practice, and steady progression, with a strong belief in the power of repetition to secure knowledge.
Devon is a nature enthusiast at heart; he often hikes in the Peak District and likes rock climbing in his spare time. His fascination with prehistoric life has made palaeontology a lifelong passion, and he even had the opportunity to meet a renowned palaeontologist during his studies — a highlight of his university experience. Unsurprisingly, his favourite film is Jurassic Park - because he loves dinosaurs.
Devon believes that both maths and science are crucial tools for understanding the world and equipping people with the tools to shape a better future. A fun fact about him is that he’s also a talented tuba player who once toured Czechia with a brass band!
