  Our son received his GCSEs results today. Tutoring Heroes' support enabled him to achieve his target grades in Maths and English - 2 grades higher that his predicted or mock exam grades.
Our son's tutor has been an excellent. He built a great rapport with our son and significantly increased his confidence. Beyond teaching English & Maths, the tutor also helped our son develop valuable study techniques and learning habits that I am sure will benefit him well into the future.
Communication with Alan has been excellent and he ensured that the tutor will be a good match for our son. We went with an option of 2 lessons a week which was an excellent value for money for the 1-2-1 tuition.

Our story: From Guernsey to online excellence

Tutoring Heroes started in the Channel Islands, where we ran our first maths tutoring sessions in a small community centre in Guernsey. When the pandemic changed everything, we moved our lessons online—and discovered the incredible benefits of remote learning. Meet some of our tutors

Ann

Ann is a friendly and supportive tutor who specialises in science, particularly physics and chemistry, while also offering English tuition. Having excelled in her GCSEs and A-levels, she is now studying Mechanical Engineering at university, where she loves bringing theory to life through practical projects, like building a remote-controlled vehicle.

Ann’s tutoring style is interactive and student-focused, helping learners build confidence and a deeper understanding at their own pace. She loves how science and maths explain the world around us, from everyday problems to the mysteries of the universe, and is passionate about sharing this sense of wonder with her students.

Beyond tutoring, Ann enjoys arts and crafts, often sketching or crocheting, and has recently developed a keen interest in chess.
An interesting fact about Ann: she has a famously terrible sense of direction — once looping around the Eiffel Tower three times because she kept getting lost!

Devon

Devon is one of our most passionate science and maths tutors, whose friendly approach helps students build confidence and independence. Currently studying Electronic Engineering at university, Devon achieved strong academic results at GCSE and A-level, particularly excelling in maths topics like graphing and mechanics. His tutoring style focuses on clear explanations, guided practice, and steady progression, with a strong belief in the power of repetition to secure knowledge.

Devon is a nature enthusiast at heart; he often hikes in the Peak District and likes rock climbing in his spare time. His fascination with prehistoric life has made palaeontology a lifelong passion, and he even had the opportunity to meet a renowned palaeontologist during his studies — a highlight of his university experience. Unsurprisingly, his favourite film is Jurassic Park – because he loves dinosaurs.

Devon believes that both maths and science are crucial tools for understanding the world and equipping people with the tools to shape a better future. A fun fact about him is that he’s also a talented tuba player who once toured Czechia with a brass band!

Shriya

Shriya is a highly adaptable and dedicated tutor who always puts the individual student’s needs first. She brings a warm, open presence to her lessons and is skilled at adjusting the pace to suit learners—whether they need reinforcement or a challenge. She particularly enjoys the moment when students grasp the “why” behind a topic, not just the “what”.

Shriya is currently studying Chemistry at university and has a passion for neurobiology and organic chemistry. She’s also a Formula 1 enthusiast, which reflects her love for detail and logic—qualities that serve her well when tutoring maths and English too. Students love her patient, clear teaching style and her enthusiasm for learning. She hopes to complete a Master’s in pharmaceutical chemistry before working in the industry.
