How our tutoring journey began in Guernsey

Our story began in 2019 with humble roots in Guernsey. Starting out with just a few students at the Cobo Community Centre, Le Guet, our focus was on small group maths sessions. Demand quickly grew, leading us to expand to larger venues like St Peter Port.

When the pandemic hit, we shifted from in-person lessons to online learning. While this was initially a necessity, we soon discovered that online tutoring provided even more benefits for our students. They thrived in the comfort of their homes, lessons became more flexible, and we could match each student with their ideal tutor—no matter where they lived.

Since then, we’ve taught hundreds of students across all education levels through personalised, effective private lessons.

What science tutoring covers at every level

Whether your child is in Key Stage 2, Key Stage 3, working towards their GCSEs, or preparing for A-levels, we provide targeted support for every current level.

Pre-GCSE and Key Stage 3 support
Our science tuition helps younger learners develop curiosity and grasp the basic concepts of scientific principles. Topics may include simple states of matter, ecosystems, basic physics ideas like forces, and early chemistry. These sessions are perfect for building early communication skills and confidence in relation to science.

GCSE-level tutoring
We provide support for both combined science and triple science routes. Each private science tutor is familiar with exam boards such as AQA, Edexcel, and OCR. Key focus areas include:

  • Biology: cells, digestion, ecology (GCSE Biology)

  • Chemistry: the periodic table, bonding, reactions (Chemistry GCSE)

  • Physics: forces, energy transfer, electricity (Physics GCSE)

Our tutors help students build a deeper understanding of complex concepts while improving their exam technique.

A-level science tuition
At A-level, our tutors provide in-depth instruction in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, covering everything from A-Level Chemistry reaction mechanisms to practical Physics experiments. Lessons are adapted to your child’s skill level, ensuring they’re confident with every fundamental concept.

Helping students overcome science challenges

Science is fascinating, but it’s not always easy. Many students find it difficult to keep up in class or feel unsure about tricky topics. Our experienced science tutors have hours of experience and are trained to identify these sticking points and create effective lessons that make learning manageable and enjoyable.

Students may struggle with:

  • Interpreting data and graphs

  • Understanding processes such as photosynthesis or electricity

  • Remembering key vocabulary and applying correct technique in exams

  • Applying knowledge across Biology, Chemistry, and Physics

By working with a dedicated tutor, students build both knowledge and study skills. We even assist students preparing for entrance exams or tackling the challenges of secondary education.

Science tutoring isn’t just for struggling students

Online tutoring can be incredibly beneficial even for high-achieving students. For advanced learners or those aiming for top grades, our private tutoring reinforces classroom knowledge while exploring topics in greater depth.

Whether your child is aiming for A-Level Maths, studying for GCSE Biology, or applying for degree level university courses, tutoring helps them push their boundaries and keeps them engaged. It also arms them with analytical skills they can benefit from in everyday life situations, as a child, as adult learners, and while pursuing their future career.

We also have tutors with a wealth of experience supporting students interested in future niche pathways like biomedical Science, political Science, or human sciences courses; these are all fields where a strong science foundation is essential. Whatever your child’s long-term goals, we’ll have a private tutor who is an experienced teacher in the foundation subjects they need to master.

We teach in line with what your child is learning in school

Every private teacher at Tutoring Heroes plans lessons that reflect your child’s current level and school curriculum. We don’t teach random topics or pull from a one-size-fits-all plan. Instead, we’ll assign you an online tutor who teaches material that:

  • Align with what’s being taught in school

  • Fill in knowledge gaps as they appear

  • Reinforce school learning to boost classroom confidence

  • Prepare students for upcoming SATs, GCSEs, and A-levels

This tailored approach ensures your child’s private lessons are relevant, impactful, and in sync with their academic journey. We may also have an experienced science teacher who can work through curriculum derivative tests to ensure your child is 100% prepared for their next exams.

Our tutors use the latest tools and techniques

We use an online whiteboard to make sessions interactive, visual, and engaging. Students can write, draw, highlight, and solve problems in real-time—just like on paper, but better.

Our tutors use different types of tutoring to adapt to each child’s preferred style of learning, including:

  • Visual: diagrams, videos, and colour coding

  • Auditory: discussion-based learning and conversational practice

  • Reading/Writing: structured notes and worksheets

  • Kinesthetic: practical examples and experiments where possible

By teaching in a way that suits your child, we keep lessons engaging, effective, and fun.

The importance of confidence and fun in learning

We believe confident learners are successful learners. A child who feels good about their abilities is more likely to ask questions, tackle challenges, and develop a love of learning.

Learning should always be a positive experience. We find that framing learning as something fun, and rewarding, can help our students get rid of bad habits they’ve picked up in school, and move past difficult phases in their in-class learning journey.

That’s why we make sure every private lesson is delivered by a fun teacher who connects with the student and encourages progress. From basic grammar, to science vocabulary to advanced equations – our approach is designed to be rewarding and uplifting for our learners.
